Adventist Technical School of Massauari

Living isolated from the great centers and practically forgotten by our government, the river dwellers of the Amazon do not have access to many things. But despite the difficulties of access to drinking water, electricity, sanitation, healthcare , telephone, among other things, perhaps the most delicate issue is the educational part. It is no exception, but the rule, to find students in the fifth, sixth, seventh year, who still can´t read. If we enter a classroom in a riverside community, we will find there children of 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 years, all under the care of a single teacher. In many municipalities, there are problems in the distribution of the children´s food and fuel for the school boat. Thus, for several days, it is possible that classes get suspended, either because of lack of food or because the school boat is not working. As a result, we see children who spend more time with nothing to do, or end up going to work with their parents. Our goal is to change that!

CHANGE SOMEONE´S FUTURE

Nova Jerusalém Community

Afew years ago, we began to dream of giving children living in isolated regions an opportunity to study in a better school. It seemed impossible, but the desire was so great that God began to open the doors. People began to fall in love with the project, donations increased and the dream began to come true. The place chosen was the New Jerusalem community. The project of this school, which is located 30 hours by boat from the capital Manaus, is divided into stages. At the moment, it is working with 2 classrooms, serving the children of the communities of Nova Jerusalém, São Bento and Xibuí.

Get Involved

In addition to formal quality education, we want to give these children music classes, computer science, english and spanish. This will be possible only with the involvement of volunteers who are willing to dedicate themselves to this project for a period of their life. If you are a teacher, know how to play an instrument or you want to teach a new language in a community within the Amazon jungle, contact us by the emailetam@adra.org.br.
In addition to teachers, we also need people who come to help build the school. This work is done through mission trips that come to spend 10 days in the Amazon. We know that not everyone has the availability to go to a place so far, but you can participate in this project also through your donations. God bless you.
